The overall concept for Wildwood and Sage is a green living lifestyle blog. The client wanted the branding to reflect the bohemian nature of the blog and feature colors found in nature. The color palette for the design was pulled from the colors of an actual sage plant. The colors embrace sage greens as in the namesake plant, as well as various shades of violet. The fonts used are Cormorant Garamond and Tanglewoods. Cormorant Garamond offers a tradition, yet not old fashioned font that is clean and grounding. Tanglewoods brings a bohemian element of whimsy to the design. Due to the complex nature of the font it’s used sparingly only in headings and for emphasis. The corresponding Tanglewoods Sans is also used throughout the branding as an alternate font. Watercolor textures were also chosen to enhance the earthy, and hand-made feeling of the blog.

Development Process:

The branding proceeded with an inspiration mood board developed on Pinterest using available images as inspiration. Images tended to nature, and mystical elements with a rustic flair. Their lighting is often muted. From there the color palette was derived, as were the fonts.

After the design and branding phase was completed, work began on the coding. The content management system used is WordPress. The theme is a child theme of the Genesis Framework by StudioPress. Wildwood & Sage is a responsive theme built with HTML5, CSS, JS, and PHP.
